Safety Valves

Maximum intermediate and final pressure are controlled by spring operated safety valves.

The safety valves will open if air pressure exceeds a set value - because of unit malfunction, for example. Once the actual pressure drops below the threshold pressure, the valve closes again. BAUER Compressors has adjusted and sealed the valves. Under no circumstances may these valves be tampered with.

Valve plates are delicate parts. They may malfunction, especially when clogged by dirt. The intermediate safety valves protect the compressor from ensuing mechanical damage to the compressor. The threshold value lies 20 - 25% above the attainable intermediate pressure.

The safety valve after the last compressor stage is particularly important; it prevents the actual pressure from overshooting the set final pressure.

The final safety valve must be checked prior to every filling cycle. It has been set to 225 bar, which is equivalent to 200 bar at 15°C, to allow for higher air temperature from the compressor. The safety valve is off limits; the final pressure may not be adjusted upwards (see » safety guidelines and regulations). The safety valve's operation can be checked at lower pressures. This is achieved by "venting" the valve (adjusting the threshold pressure downwards). After testing the valve, the original minimum threshold value should be restored.
